Remove-Item

The Remove-Item cmdlet in PowerShell is used to delete one or more items (files, directories, registry keys, etc.) from a specified location.

Here’s how to use Remove-Item:

  1. Open PowerShell by searching for it in the Start menu or by pressing Win + X and selecting “Windows PowerShell” or “Windows PowerShell (Admin)”.
  2. Once PowerShell is open, you can use the Remove-Item cmdlet followed by the path of the item you want to delete. For example:
  • To delete a file: Remove-Item -Path C:\Path\ToFile.txt
  • To delete a directory and all its contents recursively: Remove-Item -Path C:\Path\To\Directory -Recurse
  • You can also use parameters such as -Force to force the removal of read-only items and -Confirm to prompt for confirmation before removing each item.
  1. After executing the Remove-Item cmdlet with the desired parameters, PowerShell will delete the specified item(s).
